Weed Tales of Cave Junction

This project documents a two-month stay in the cannabis farming community of Cave Junction, Southern Oregon. What was striking about this area high in forested mountains was the lawlessness; in a world of ex-gangsters and outcasts, tales of money, murder, and addiction emerged from what was also a very close and caring community.

The work draws on the concept of the dystopian American Dream; the images portray weapons, fallibility and drug use; yet depict the durability of the human spirit. I witnessed the scale of the cannabis industry, meeting the ‘trimmigrants’ who travel from all over the world to work with ‘The Devil's Lettuce’, living in tents for months in sub-zero conditions, sometimes with no running water or facilities.
